Anyone know about golf clubs?
Question by Sammy: Anyone know about golf clubs?
I am looking to buy my first set of golf clubs(I’m a lefty and am 13 years old). What’s the difference between a 5 wood and 6,8,PW Irons? What do they do?
Thanks

a 5 wood is a wood, it has a big club head
PW stands for Pitching Wedge and those are irons so they’re slim

A five wood is like the shape of a drive buy smaller. If will also be at aa higher degree which means you will hit it alot higher that a driver but ir will not go as far. A 6 iron is an iron with a lover degree which means that it will go high but alot further. For example you would not use a 6 iron to chip onto the green you would bee able to use it as your second shot after your drive if you are not that close to the green
An 8 iron is an iron that is at a higher degree than a 6 iron which mean that you will not be able to hit as far with it but you will get more height.
A pitching wedge can be used for a pit and run. For instance if the flag is at the back of the green and you are at the front in a little bit off rough you could use your pitching wedge to do something called a pitch and run. Which mean that you hit it so that it will hit the mabe 10-15 yards before that flag and the run an a little bit towards the flag.
By a high degree I mean the angle it is. For instance the higher the degree the higher number of the club. I think a normal sand wedge is 52 degrees which mean that you wont get alot of distance but it will go high.
Now for a set of clubs you would bee better off looking for a set of wilson. Something like wilson staff, wilson pro staff or mabe wilson reflex as they can be something like 100- 250 dollars. Another place to look is ebay as you can get a second hand set for less than 100 dollars as you dont want to spend 250 on a set of clubs then you hate golf.
Are you in the uk or usa as if you are in the uk get back to me and I can give you links to good sites for clubs.
A 5 wood is just a wood, 6,8,pw irons are Irons, different ways… If you are a rookie, you can try to buy a hybrid, then find the feeling…
A fairway wood (5 Wood) has either a metal/hybrid head/wood, which is similar to your driver. You would use this club from the fairway to gain much needed distance to the pin. A 6 iron is a short iron but you can still get good distance with it. An 8 iron is a short iron for shorter approach shots. A pitching wedge you’ll probably want to use between 75-125 yards on an approach shot. It is lofted (the blade of the club is angled more) so your shot will get up in the air. The PW is also good to shoot over trees and for chipping. A recommendation though, look into buying some used clubs for cheap, that way if golf isn’t your thing, you’re not out of a lot of $ $ .
As a beginner keep it simple… take at least 1 lesson or a group lesson to show u proper grip and set up and watch others when they swing and their finish. As for clubs, it will be a while before u know what u like, need or want. When i started out i went to a local sporting goods store like Big5 and purchased a starter set that has everything you will need bag & putter included. Some of these pros lend their name to clubs such as John Daley and Jack Nicholas both have good quality sets. The game is all about timing and tempo…
